For June 23rd

Outside My Window…
The sun is shining, but a breeze kisses my face…it should be cooler this week.

I am thinking…
About what to do now school is “out” for the summer.

I am thankful for…
The cooler temps today.

From the kitchen…
Spaghetti with meatballs, veggies and maybe some banana bread warmed with butter for dessert.

I am creating…
Hopefully, some clothes for the kids. I’m also trying to learn how to crochet.

I am going…
Dropping off the girls at VBS (already done), grocery shopping but mostly home.

I am wearing…
A blue t-shirt, blue jeans and my hair pulled back.

I am reading…
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
And
Home-Making by J.R. Miller

I am hoping…
That the girls really have a lovely time at VBS this week.

I am hearing…
Birds singing outside my window.

Around the house…
Busy, busy, busy…

One of my favorite things…
A cool breeze.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Going through homeschool stuff, reorganizing several places in the home, cleaning, sewing and groceries. VBS all week too.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing…

From the kitchen…
Yummy meatloaf and maybe some biscuits to go with!

I am creating…
My intentions are good….but nothing much is getting done…still!

I am wearing…
Warm, pink and cream pj pants and a tank top. I will run off to get dressed here very soon:-)

A lot of household duties, running of errands and just plain home body stuff.

A Book Meme

The other day, I was tagged by dear Shannon over at A Maiden’s Musings. This is an especially fun meme (by the way...I still have no clue as to what that means;-0) because it is about books and I LOVE books. I’ve been a reader since I can remember and I enjoy it when I can sneak a chapter or two in when things are quiet or calm. There are some rules and I will try to do my best to follow them, but I must say, it will be a challenge since the majority of those I would tag, well, have already been! Enjoy!

Rules
Link to the person that tagged you, post the rules somewhere in your meme, answer the questions, tag six people in your post, let the tagees know they’ve been chosen by leaving a comment on their blog, let the tagger know your entry is posted.
Who is your all time favorite author and why?
This is a really tough question! How can one really just narrow it down to one? I have several favorites and would love to just list them…but I will resist. So, I will say that right now my all-time favorite author would be Jane Austen. She has such a witty, enjoyable style. The moral values she introduces in her books are sound and I really enjoy it. I’ve always loved reading and have always been encouraged to read good books by good authors, however, I’m not sure where I first came across Jane Austen. But I was hooked with the first book!
Who was your first favorite author and why? Do you still consider him/her to be among your favorites?
This was a very easy one :-) My first favorite would most definitely be Laura Ingalls Wilder. My Mom and Dad read the Little House books to me as a child, and then I read them many times as a girl. As a child the style of writing was very easy, yet engaging, so I could continue to read the books by Laura over and over as I aged and still enjoy them. She had a way of captivating her audience and bringing them with her on the prairie. I think someone told her that she could paint pictures with her words (or something to that affect) and they were very much right. I definitely still consider her one of my favorites and read her books again and again! Actually, I’m having the itch to read them again :-)
Who is the most recent addition to your list of favorite authors, and why?
I’d have to say J.R.R Tolkien. Perhaps this is strange, but it is true. Growing up I’d heard of the Hobbit, Lord of the Rings and Tolkien, but was not allowed to read these books. Then the movies came out a few years ago and my hubby and I went to see them. From that point on I really wanted to read the books and so hubby bought them for me. Tolkien is an amazing author with a style that just draws you in. It is easy to get “into” his worlds.
If someone asked you who your favorite authors were right now, which authors would first pop out of your mouth?
Aaah, now I can let loose! These are my favorites: Jane Austen, L.M. Montgomery, C.S. Lewis, Tolkien, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Robert Louis Stevenson, James Alexander Thom and Willa Cather. Seriously, I really like a lot of books and authors…so this is an awfully short list ;-)
Okay, I tag:
I know, that is only one..but seriously, I think everyone else has been tagged..so if you haven't been and you'd like to play, consider yourself tagged :-)
Blessings,
Sommer

Homeschool Days and Heart Issues

I’ve been so very busy lately! I’m not sure with what(LOL), because things are still cluttered and crazy at home…but it does feel as if all of my days are full. We are winding down our school year and should be officially finished next week:-) I could really use the break. The time it takes in the morning will be put to use in other ways…decluttering, household duties, and crafts and VBS in two weeks! We probably will continue with some light school..but nothing academic heavy. Perhaps a Home Economics course I have, continuing phonics for Miss Brenna and review of math facts for Miss Fiona, and working with manners and heart issues. We also need to update Fiona’s Zoology notebook. This was an awesome course, and we are doing the notebooking part now to review old lessons. Another year has gone by swiftly and has gone generally well. In a few weeks I will hopefully have my entire curriculum for next year and will plan out my tentative schedule for this coming school year. Miss Fiona will be going into 3rd grade and Miss Brenna will be officially a Kindergartener (if you go with traditional grades). I’m excited for the continuing of our little homeschool, but like I said, I am ready for a little break:-)

Life as a stay at home, homeschooling momma is a blessing and a pleasure, but it also has its difficult days. I’ve been having some of those lately. This is part of the reason I have not posted much lately. I’ve been feeling overwhelmed, low in spirit and I’ve been doing a lot of heart searching on my responses to stress and difficult issues with the kids. We’ve been dealing with many heart issues and it has tried me in ways that really have shown my own failings. One thing we deal with is tempers and attitudes with each other. Of course, as a momma, I tell my children not to yell at each other and to speak kindly. But I’ve found that I’ve been yelling more than I should and sometimes my responses are less than kind. How sad I feel about this and I have been asking God to help me in this area. It has been a huge struggle and one I know needs change. A group I’m on also spoke recently about “taming the tongue” and speaking with kindness. Talk about being convicted! So, the girls and I have been working together to change how we are together. I find that if I am consciously trying to speak and respond kindly (even in times of stress/discipline), I do better at it. So my desire is to not set this aside but strive to continue to think before I respond. It seems to be so far going well, but I know I have a long way to go before my habits have changed.

I’m afraid I’ve had no time to sew or knit…sigh…I have so much I want to do, but the time never seems to be there. We are selling my hubby’s car though and going to one car, so I hope that the enforced time at home will make it so naps can be more consistent (and not so late), and that I will have much more time for these things (after essentials are done) and that I can also take the time to teach my daughters more of these enjoyable skills.

Well, this is just a quick update on me:-) I do hope to be back to regular posting. Have a blessed day!

Blessings,
Sommer

Sunday Rest~The Miracle of Life

Thanks to Stacy at Your Sacred Calling, I came across this story. This relates a miraculous birth, one that astounds the doctor. However, one thing I noticed was the references to "luck". Let us say what it really is...a miracle of God. It is not by chance that this little one survived outside of the womb and grew to full term. He was being sheltered by the mighty hand of our Lord! Is it not amazing what our Lord can do?!

This child will have an amazing story to tell to be sure:-)

Let us remember this Lord's Day:

"For thou hast possessed my reigns: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee: for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well."

~Psalm 139:13-14
