Sunday Rest~Thanksgiving

"Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.
For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods."
Psalm 95:2-3
I meant to do a Thanksgiving post, but blogger was not working well for me. So, I just wanted to post a little something tonight.
I have found that thanksgiving really isn't just for one designated day a year, but it should be given everyday to God. Everyday, I know there is something that I can thank him for...I just haven't taken the time to do so. I hope that as I go about my life in the coming days, I will remember to praise God and give Him thanksgiving each day...even those days that aren't going well.
I pray you all have had a very happy Thanksgiving and I look forward to sharing the Christmas holidays with all you my friends!
Blessings,
Sommer

Sunday Rest

"And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.
And, behold, there arose a greta tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.
And he saith unto them, "Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?" Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!"
Matthew 8:23-27
I find this to be such an awesome passage! What an example of God's power! We have an awesome God!!!
Happy Lord's Day to you all,
Sommer

A Yummy Treat!

Tonight we are attending our church's Thanksgiving Dinner. It is always a good time of fun and fellowship. We attended last year and had a really nice time, and so we decided again to go this year:-) Everyone was asked to bring a particular side or dessert...I decided to go with pie. I LOVE pie!

And this is such a yummy one, that I thought I'd share the recipe with you all! I do hope you enjoy it!

Maple Custard Pie(from PIE by Ken Haedrich)

1 single crust pie pastry

Filling:
1 ¼ cups heavy or whipping cream
½ cup pure maple syrup(although I have used imitation…but pure is better J)
1/3 cup sugar
½ tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
4 large egg yolks

1) If you haven’t already, prepare the pastry and refrigerate until firm enough to roll, about 1 hour.

2) On a sheet of lightly floured waxed paper, roll the pastry into a 12 or 13 inch circle with a floured rolling pin. Invert the pastry over a 9-inch standard or 9 ½ inch deepdish pie pan, center, and peel off the paper. Tuck pastry into the pan, without stretching it, and sculpt the edge so it is even with the rim. Place in the freezer for 15 minutes, then partially prebake and let cool.

3) Set oven temperature to 350* F.

4) Combine all the filling ingredients in a large bowl and whisk briefly, until evenly mixed. Pour the filling into the cooled pie shell.

5) Place the pie on the center oven rack and bake until the filling is nicely browned and set, 35-40 minutes total. Rotate the pie 180*, so that the part that faced the back of the oven now faces forward, 10-15 minutes before it is done. The middle should be jiggly but not soupy .

6) Transfer the pie to a wire rack and let cool thoroughly. Serve at room temperature, or, better yet, cover with loosely tented aluminum foil and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight before serving.

Awesome Post on Submission...

I just finished reading a wonderful post on submissive wives by Stacy MacDonald. Just great and very convicting! I highly reccomend reading it. If you go here, you will be treated to a heart touching and convicting post.

I plan on taking this challenge...I have a feeling I have not been as submissive as I'd like to think...

Blessings,

Sommer

Thanksgiving is just around the corner....

I find that many of us(myself included) tend to get so enthralled with the holiday season and preparations for Christmas, that we tend to skip past Thanksgiving as quickly as is proper. I doubt there are many of us that just skip it, but perhaps we don't put the same effort into it as we might otherwise. Now, don't get me wrong...I LOVE Christmas, and begin thinking on it...well...maybe in June! So, I too am already preparing and planning for it. But, this year, I am especially aware of my need to be thankful. To thank my dear Lord for His mighty provision and care.
You see, it has been an especially lean year. There have been job changes, new baby and bills that tend to overwhelm....and yet, He has been beside us this whole time, seeing that we get through. Just as I begin to waver and panic, He reminds me who He is and that I am His! And so, how can I swiftly pass by this day of ultimate thanksgiving? I can not! Many people say "Thanks" on this day, but not to the Mighty Provider. I am hoping to keep my thoughts on Him that day and to teach my children whom they should ultimately give thanks to, in all things.
So, I'm wondering what all my friends are doing this coming Thanksgiving. Are you having a gathering of family or friends...both maybe? Will it be formal or casual? What are some of your traditions?
I plan to post again about what we do or will be doing this week...so do come by again and visit, and please share in the comments your thoughts:-)
Blessings,
Sommer

My Goal:

Make my desk usable....

As you can see, it was a useless mess. I couldn't find anything and, like my kitchen table, it had become a catch-all! My desk is in the midst of our living room. Everyone can see it as they enter the home. Let me just say that it was an eye-sore!

Friday night, I popped in Ben Hur and began cleaning off the mess! It was a long bit of work, but well worth it in the end. I went through papers and threw much out. Some things finally got back to their rightful places and others, just got into a nicer area on the desk. In the end, I was pleased..I still am:-) I now can sit at my desk and actually....write at it! So, here it is in all its glory.....

I have to now come up with my next job to tackle...but stay tuned for the next installment of declutter goals. I am very encouraged right now. I can see my home finally coming together and feeling like I want it to. I CAN do this...the Lord has truly given me motivation and energy! I just pray that it keeps up:-)

Blessings,
Sommer

Sunday Rest

"I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations."

Psalm 89:1

I hope each of you are having a lovely weekend. We have been having a pleasant one. The weather has turned cold and wet....I love it!

Friday night I completed the decluttering and reorganization of my desk. I'm so very pleased. I'll either be back on tonight or tomorrow to post about that, with pictures:)

Have a blessed Lord's Day!

An Hundredth Post...

It is hard to fathom that this is my hundredth post! Surely, it can't be?! I so enjoy having a blog. I enjoy the friendships I have made through it, the knowledge I have picked up from others' blogs. I surely hope that I can continue bringing bits of interest and "normal" life to each of you as I continue to use my blog as an outlet for creativity and thoughtfulness, encouragement and support!

I have been rather overwhelmed the last few days, trying to overcome a sinus infection and gain some energy back. Last week I had a horrible sore throat and it seems to have traveled to my sinuses. But, thankfully today..I do believe I'm on the mend. My energy has picked up and I feel a little more myself once again:-)

Of course, all this being said, you may have noticed that I have not posted an updated picture of my desk. Well, since being sick and other events that have happened over the weekend and this week, it has been put aside for a brief time. But, I do hope to get it accomplished by this Saturday. I really do need to find the desk...it is so very covered right now and is completely useless! I know there are things that I need to get to on there...if only I could find them;-p

I pray you all are having a splendid week! See you tomorrow:-)

Blessings,
Sommer
